Chinese Tokamak Achieves Double Plasma Temperatures of Over 100 Million Degrees for the First Time
Chinese scientists and engineers have moved one step closer to the extreme conditions needed for controlled nuclear fusion. The advanced Huangliu-3 (HL-3) nuclear fusion facility has achieved plasma with an ion temperature of 117 million °C and an electron temperature of 160 million °C. In addition, the tokamak has tested the diagnostic system for the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER).
